Customs seize bullets, lenses from air passenger

Chennai, Dec 25 (UNI) The aircustoms seized 50.002 bullets and three lenses meant for guns from the baggage of an air passenger who arrived from the United States by a Lufthansa flight at Anna International airport here.

Customs sources said, Dr Thomas Wesley George (48) a dentist and Green Card holder of the US had landed here along with his family on Friday night, enroute to his native place in Andhra Pradesh to celebrate Christmas.

One of his baggage did not arrive on that day and the authorities asked him to come and collect it on Saturday.

When the customs officials were scanning the baggage, they found the bullets and lenses inside it. When they asked Mr George about the bullets, he said he was holding a licence for the gun and was also a member of a rifle club in the US. The bulets were meant for hunting birds and carrying them was not an offence.

The officials seized the bullets, the lenses and his passport.

They obtained an undertaking that whenever he was required for interrogation, he should come to meet the authorities.

Woman among two arrested for possessing gelatine sticks, detonators

Nagpur, Dec 24 (UNI) Nagpur police have arrested two people, including a woman, and seized 62 gelatine sticks and 21 detonators from the latter's house here late last night. The woman, Aruna Jivatu Salame (55), was arrested as she could not provide a satisfactory explanation about the presence of the explosives in her house, seized in a raid carried out after a tip-off, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Suresh Mekala told newspersons here this evening......

Two booked for defrauding SICOM of Rs 2.11 crore

Nagpur, Dec 24 (UNI) The police have booked two directors of a private company here for defrauding State Industrial and Investment Corporation of Maharashtra (SICOM) Limited of over Rs 2.11 crore. Police said Arun Sampatrao More (51) and Rita Arun More, both directors of Gurudutt Infrastructure Private Limited, submitted fake documents and account records to SICOM to obtain a loan of Rs 1.49 crore for the construction of 11.5 km of road on Build, Own.....

Cannabis worth Rs 12 crore seized

Mumbai, Dec 24 (UNI) The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Mumbai Police have seized 45 kg of cannabis, worth Rs 12 crore in the international market, from three different places in the Metropolis and arrested six persons in this connection.
