CPI(M) blasts BJP for pursuing ''divisive politics, communalism''

New Delhi, Dec 25 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) today lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party for pursuing ''divisive politics and rank communalism'' and said the recent BJP National Council Session at Lucknow had highlighted all the issues of the ''discredited'' BJP-RSS combine agenda.

A statement issued by the CPI(M) Central Committee here said the message coming out of the Lucknow National Council Session was that the BJP, ''led by the RSS,'' had adopted a platform of divisive politics and rank communalism.

The speech by BJP President Rajnath Singh, the Political Resolution and speeches by other BJP leaders had highlighted all the issues on the BJP-RSS combine agenda which had been 'discredited,'' it said.

Observing that the Political Resolution spoke about ''Muslim appeasement'' and warned that this could lead to a second partition of India, the Resolution said the arguments were reminiscent of how the ''Hindu communal platform'' stayed away from freedom struggle and sought to divide it on communal lines.

''In a secular India, the rights of minorities have to be assured and the Sachar Committee had only underlined the failings in this regard.'' Warning against the ''serious results'' of such ''rabid communal platform,'' the CPI(M) said, ''Muslim baiting and efforts to foment commnal tensions could have harmful consequences.'' ''The BJP has to be rebuffed on this count and will be held squarely responsible for any disruptive activities,'' it warned.

The statement said the BJP record in government at the centre and in states had shown that a ''rightwing communal platform'' was no answer to their problems.

The CPI(M) accused the BJP leadership of being unable to realise that its politics and ideology were no more in tune with common man's aspirations.
