Christmas celebrated with traditional gaiety in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 25 (UNI) Christmas, birthday of Jesus Christ, was celebrated with great enthusiasm and traditional gaiety in Kerala today with devotees attending midnight masses at various churches acorss the state.

Churches were illuminated with stars and balloons across the state.

Archbishop Susa Pakiam led the midnight mass at the St Joseph's Cathedral in the city, while Mar Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil Major-Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, was the main celebrant at the St Mary's Basilica In Kochi.

Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan and Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly Oommen Chandy greeted the people and wished Merry Christmas to Malayalees the world over.

Five killed and seven injured in accident

Malappuram, Dec 25 (UNI) Five teenagers were killed and seven injured when the jeep in which they were travelling collided with a bus at Kottappuram in the district today. Police said the jeep coming to Ayikarappady from Mongam dashed against the bus coming from Kozhikode killing them on-the-spot. The deceased were identified as Naseem, Mohammed Shameer and Rahim (all aged 18), Shuhaib(15) and Shafeeq(13). The injured have been admitted to the Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode......

J'khand govt concerned over theft of BARC analayser

Hazaribagh, Dec 24 (UNI) Deputy Chief Minister of Jharkhand Sudhir Mahto today said the state government was concerned over the theft of analayser from the Central Coalfields Limited. One person arrested for alleged fraud in Bengal

Barrackpore, Dec 24 (UNI) Police has arrested the owner of a local private financing firm for alleged fraud of about Rs two crore from a United Bank of India Branch here in North 24 Parganas. The accused, Tapas Bhakat, a franchisee of a financing company ''A to Z'' was produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, which remanded him to the police custody for further investigation.
