Christmas celebrated with fervour in Meghalaya

Shillong, Dec 25 (UNI) Christmas was celebrated with religious fervour and enthusiasm across Meghalaya.

Midnight Mass was held at several big and small churches across the state, including the Mary Help of Christian Cathedral and Church of North India.

Today, morning Mass was also conducted in all the churches to mark the occasion.

Shillong Archdiocese Archbishop Dominic Jala led the congregation in a Christmas midnight Mass at the Mary Help of Christian cathedral here.

Rev Jala appealed to the people to uphold the ideals of universal love and brotherhood.

All the churches in the city were elegantly decorated. After offering prayers, bells rang at midnight. The Christian leaders cut cakes and conveyed greetings. People from different religious background also took part in the celebrations and exchanged greetings.

Youngsters clad in their new attire went around the city singing carols. While children celebrated Christmas with much enthusiasm.

Chief Minister J D Rymbai attended Christmas service at Presbyterian Church. Former Lok Sabha Speaker and NCP Purno A Sangma also attended the mass at St Mary's Church in Tura, of the West Garo Hills district.

Extending his Christmas greetings, Chief Minister J D Rymbai said Christmas promotes goodwill, compassion and love and hoped that it brought joy and prosperity to all.

Other political leaders also celebrated Christmas exchanging good wishes.

The Central Puja Committee, an apex organization of all Hindu religious groups in the state, celebrated Christmas with 70 inmates of Shanti Bhawan Old Age Home run by the congregation of Mother Teresa.

BPL Mizo youths sent for hi-tech training

Aizawl Dec 25 (UNI) In a bid to uplift the Below Poverty Level (BPL) youths under the Swarna Jyanti Swa-Rojgar Yujana (SJSRY) Scheme, Mizoram goventment has sent 24 youths to the Department of Electronic Accreditation and Computer Courses centre (DoEACC) for training in the Computer Aided Design for Textile. K Thanhlira, member Secretary of State-level Upliftment and Development Alleviation (SUDA), said altogether 1470 BPL youth in different fields were sent for training to DOEACC centre.....

Indore girl claims to set new marathon dancing record

Indore, Dec 25 (UNI) A 16-year-old city girl has claimed to a new record by dancing continuously for 85 hours. Aditi began tapping her feet at 0930 hrs on December 20 and continued to dance until 2230 hrs last night. During this period, she danced on filmi songs, folk music and other songs. Kashmiri Pandits reject Mush's formula on Kashmir

New Delhi, Dec 26: Kashmiri Pandits today rejected Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's four-point formula on Kashmir and said the latest indications emanating from the ongoing Indo-Pak Composite Dialogue process were confusing.A Resolution adopted after a day-long conference, organised by the Kashmiri Samiti, the apex body of Kashmiri Pandits, said it was not very clear what prompted Gen Musharraf to come out with this ''out of box'' formula but it was clear that the government of India was willing to discuss.....
