Boxing Day Test poised to knock out attendence records

Sydney, Dec 25 (UNI) For all those who thought Test cricket wasn't a crowd puller anymore, it's time eat a dead crow.

A world record crowd of around 100,000 is expected to throng first day of the fourth Ashes Test in Melbourne tomorrow to witness for the last time bowling legends Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath in action at the MCG.

In the process, the MCG could better its long-standing record of 90,800 viewers, who watched Australia and West Indies play on day two of the fifth Test of the 1960-1961 summer.

Officials are also optimistic the Boxing Day Test will break the 70-year-old record aggregate attendance for five days currently held by, again, the MCG when a crowd of 350,354 watched Don Bradman's side beat England in the third Test of the 1936-1937 summer.

The fact that Australia already holds a winning 3-0 lead over England has hardly been a deterrent as it's a sold-out for the first two days while near a capacity crowd awaits the third and fourth day.
