Bangalore to host Sunfeast All India Junior Golf Championship

Bangalore, Dec 25 (UNI) As many as 93 of the country's top junior and sub junior golfers will be seen in action at the Sunfeast All India Junior/Sub Junior Golf Championship which tees off at the par-71 Karnataka Golf Association here tomorrow.

The four-day tournament, which forms the final leg of the Sunfeast Junior/Sub-Junior Golf Tour, will have competition in four different age categories.

Top players including Rahul Bakshi, Amanjyot Singh, Raghav Bhandari, Rommel Majumdar, Chikkarangappa, Viraat Badhwar and Master Honey would vie for top honours. Sri Lankan duo of Binupa Wijesinghe and Sanjay Wettimling will add foreign flavour to the prestigious tournament.

Category 'A' will include golfers in the age group of 15-17 years, while Category 'B' will feature those in the 13-14 age bracket. Categories 'C' and 'D' will figure golfers in the 11-12 and 10 and below categories respectively.

Order of merit leader Rahul Bakshi will lead the field in the senior most 'A' category.

Bakshi, fresh from his win at the Sunfeast Western India Juniors, will face stiff challenge from second ranked Jaipur's Amanjyot Singh who won the Sunfeast Eastern India Junior title in Kolkata in November and finished second at the Sunfeast Western India Junior.

Appanna rattles Andhra batting line up

Anantapur, Dec 25 (UNI) Andhra were restricted to 224 for nine, thanks to a fine bowling by rookie KP Appanna on the opening day of the the Ranji Elite Group-A match against Karnataka here today. Appanna struck severe blows to Andhra by taking five wickets for 70 runs. Appanna, who had earlier taken 11 wickets in four matches in the season, first removed LN Prasada Reddy, the century maker against Baroda in the previous game,.....

Woman hockey player attempts suicide

Jammu, Dec 24 (UNI) National woman hockey player Renu Singh attempted suicide by jumping off the Tawi bridge here, police said today. Reportedly depressed after her documents were destroyed in a fire, seventeen-year-old Renu jumped off the bridge at around 1615 hrs yesterday. Police immediately swung into action fished her out in unconcious state. She was taken to the hospital and she survived. A case under section 309 RPC has been registered against Renu. Sher-e-Jalandhar win Romesh hockey title

Jalandhar, Dec 24 (UNI) Sher-e-Jalandhar won the ninth Romesh Chander Memorial Hockey Tournament here today, defeating Punjab Police 2-1 in a well fought final which was stretched into extra time. Both teams playing with several international stars were evenly matched and displayed good skills. While the combination of Olympians Gagan Ajit Singh, Baljit Dhillon and Baljit Saini exhibited good team work for the winners, drag flicker Jugraj Singh and Gagandeep Singh also played well for.....
