Amartya Sen faints in Dhaka

Dhaka, Dec 25 (UNI) Nobel laureate Amartya Sen tonight fell into a brief state of unconsciousness when he was having dinner at the BRAC-Inn Center here.

Mr Sen fainted at about 2200 hrs local time. However, he gained consiousness after some time and his condition was said to be stable, Center for Policy Dialogue Executive Director Debapriya Bhattacharya told UNI.

''He did not want to see doctor, he is taking rest, he is alright, there is nothing to be panicked,'' Mr Bhattacharya said.

Mr Sen will attend his scheduled programme at the BRAC-Inn-Center tomorrow, he said.

Dubai, Dec 25 (UNI) A 47-year old Indian from Kerala has been honoured for his act of bravery after he rescued five people from a sinking vessel that killed 55 people, including 21 Indians, in the worst such tragedy in Bahrain. Dubai, Dec 25 (UNI) The body of an Indian real estate agent was found in mysterious circumstances in the public toilet of Dubai public transport station. A cleaner on Saturday found the body of S A P Habib Rahman (45), in a standing position with his back against the toilet wall, news reports said. Later, it was presumed that Rahman, apparently, died of a cardiac arrest while using the toilet on Friday afternoon......

Police clearance certificates done away with for labourers

Dubai, Dec 25 (UNI) In a decision that is expected to leave a positive impact on the flow of Indian workers to Qatar, the Doha government has announced that newly-arriving workers do not need to bring along police clearance certificates from their native countries. ''There is no need for a worker to produce the certificate of good conduct from his home country any more,'' an Arabic daily reported. It, however, did not say if the expatriates.....

Dubai, Dec 25 (UNI) IT major Satyam Computer Services has reported a 70 per cent year-on-year revenue growth in West Asia, Company's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Rama Raju said.
