YSR call to people on assigned lands

Hyderabad, Dec 24 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today called upon the people inform the local authorities about assigned lands which were encroached upon or purchased by the rich.

According to a press release here, Dr Reddy said people should bring such instances to the notice of government by writing a letter or through a phone call immediately.

Reiterating the government's commitment to distribute surplus lands to the poor as part of the land distribution programme launched by the Congress Government, the Chief Minister said people should take part in this initiative voluntarily without any political involvement.

Maintaining he had surrendered assigned lands to the government for the benefit of the poor even as the opposition parties made allegations against him, Dr Reddy said the government would take 'crucial decisions' on encroached assigned lands based on the recommendations made by a committee, on December 28.

MLA injured in road accident in AP

Hyderabad, Dec 24 (UNI) The Congress MLA and his car driver were injured when a car in which they were travelling hit another car parked on the outskirts of the city today. Police said Ongole MLA B Srinivasa Reddy was proceeding to Ongole on his car when the mishap occurred. Mr Reddy received minor injuries and his driver of the car received head bruises.
