Vedike activists protest Union Home Minister

Bangalore, Dec 24(UNI) Police arrested seven activists of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike when they tried to waive black-flags against the Union Home Minister Shivraj V Patil in protest against his pro-Maharashtra stand on Karnataka-Maharashtra border issue here today.

The incident took place when the Union Home Minister Shivaraj Patil started addressing the vast gathering at the valedictory ceremony of the 1047th year Jayanthi celebration of the Srivarathreeshwara Bhagavathpada of Suttur Mutt this evening.

The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists led by its president Praveen Kumar Shetty while trying to waive the black flag against the Union Home Minister also raised slogans against the center.

The police who were present in good numbers at the place managed to whisk away the Kannada activists and arrested them later.

Maharashtra Governor and former Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna, Acting chairman of the National Human Rights Commission Justice Shivaraj Patil, and Karnataka Home Minister M P Prakash were also present on the occasion.

Man beheads neighbour's wife; surrenders before police

Sambalpur, Dec 25 (UNI) A daily labourer under the influence of liquor today beheaded his neighbour's wife Tapaswini Singhdeo today and surrendered before police with the severed head and the axe. Police said one Ghasiram Majhi (50), residing in Kanijuri at the outskirts of Sambalpur town, did not flee after committing the ghastly crime and proceeded to the Town police station to confess his crime. One shot dead by militants

Imphal, Dec 25 (UNI) A man was shot dead and two others shot in their legs by cadres of United National Liberation Front for alleged involvement in a murder case. A spokesman of UNLF said on December 15 last one Basanta (35) was killed and three persons were directly involved. Justice Patwalia resigns from HC bench

Chandigarh, Dec 25 (UNI) Punjab and Haryana High Court Judge Justice P S Patwalia has resigned in order to return to practice at the Supreme Court . He submitted his resignation today to the HC Chief Justice. Prior to his elevation to the bench, he was a senior advocate at the High Court here. He is the son of former Supreme Court, Judge, Kuldip Singh, who is now the Chairman of the Delimitation Commission. UNI XC.....
