Two killed, 1 hurt in mishap near Buldhana

Nagpur, Dec 24 (UNI) Two persons were killed and another injured seriously after the motorcycle they were riding on was hit by an oncoming van near Deulgaon Mahi in Buldhana district of Maharashtra today.

Sheikh Nissar Sheikh Tahir (28), Sheikh Sameer Sheikh Ameer, both residents of Deulgaon Mahi, and Sheikh Haroon Sheikh Hamid (35), a resident Jalna district in Marathwada region of the state, were on way to Deulgaon Raja when the speeding van, coming from the opposite direction, smashed them this morning, police said. All of them were hurt seriously and they were rushed to a local hospital.

Tahir and Hamid later succumbed to their injuries in the hospital, while Ameer is battling for his life, police said, adding that the van driver, Inder Hiwale, has been arrested.

Pawar stresses need to encourage biotechnology education

Kolhapur, Dec 25 (UNI) Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar today underlined the need to encourage biotechnology education. Mr Pawar was speaking at a function to unveil the statue of eminent educationist Bapuji Salunkhe at the Shivaji University here today. Mr Pawar also stressed the need to encourage merit-based education in order to empower the students for the development of the nation. Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil were also present.....

Three years' RI for doctor

Ujjain, MP, Dec 24 (UNI) A special court has sentenced a doctor to three years' rigorous imprisonment and fined him Rs 10,000 in a disproportionate assets case under the Prevention of Corruption Act. According to prosecution, on the basis of a complaint by one Tejram, police had arrested district hospital assistant surgeon Radhey Shyam for accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 on January 25, 2002. During investigation, it was found that Dr Radhey Shyam had accumulated.....

Temperature fluctuation in MP

Bhopal, Dec 24 (UNI) Temperature continues to fluctuate in Madhya Pradesh where the northern region's two locations registered night temperature of 7 degrees Celsius while in other parts the mercury was higher than normal. ''The weather change is due to winds blowing south and a western disturbance. Khajuraho and Gwalior recorded a minimum of 7 C overnight whereas the night temperature was a notch above normal in the state capital,'' a Regional Meteorological Centre spokesman.....
