TN CM releases audio, CD of film on rationalist leader

Chennai, Dec 24 (UNI) Welcoming the decision to depict the story of rationalist leader Periyar - E V Ramaswamy - on celluloid, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi released the first audio and CD of the film at a simple function here last evening.

DK leader K Veeramani, actor Kamal Hassan, who received the first copy of the audeo and CD, actor Satyaraj who plays the role of Periyar in the film, actress Kushboo who plays Periyar's wife, lyricist Vairamuthu, Director of the film Jyana Rajasekharan, Cinematographer Thankar Bachan and Vidyasagar, Union Minister Mr Raja and Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker Avudaiappan were among those who attended the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Karunanidhi recalled his association with his mentor Periyar and then another late Dravidian stalwart and former Chief Minister C N Annadurai.

He said he was striving to provide an administration adhering to the ideals propounded by Periyar and Anna.

Mr Veeramani who also welcomed the endeavour of portraying Periyar's life on screen, thanked the state government for granting financial assistance for its making.

Actor Satyaraj said he was working hard to give off his best in the role of Periyar and thanked the film's makers for giving him the rare opportunity.

Mr Thankar Bachan appealed to the Chief Minister to exempt the film from Entertainment Tax.

RKMH parters with ORBIS to improve eye care facilities

Punjab to set up cancer institute in Malwa belt

Mansa, Dec 24 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today said the government would soon set up a Cancer Hospital and Research Institute at Talwandi Sabo to provide best possible treatment to patients in the Malwa belt. Health insurance scheme for poor : Nitish

Patna, Dec 25 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today announced the state government would soon launch health insurance scheme for the poor and underprivileged.
