Semiliguda accident toll rises to 7, NGO chief arrested

Koraput, Dec 24 (UNI) The toll in yesterday's accident at Simeliguda rose to seven with four more people succumbing to their injuries at hospital.

Police said while five of the injured were shifted to a hospital in Vizag in critical condition, 17 were admitted to the District Headquarter Hospital.

The accident took place when over 70 tribals were travelling in a truck to attend a rally organised by 'Awareness', an NGO at Pottangi.

The vehicle overturned near a bridge.

The police arrested 'Awareness' Chief Kailash Mishra and the driver of the vehicle following the incident.

Burnpur, W Bengal, Dec 24 (UNI) Steel Minister Ram Vilas Paswan today said the Steel Authority of India (SAIL) had targeted to double its production to 80 million tonnes through continuous upgradation and modernisation. Mangaldai, Dec 24 (UNI) Border Roads Organisation (BRO) junior engineer, kidnapped by suspected National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants from Udalguri district of Asom, remained untraced for the third day today. Five children die on bank of Ganga

Patna, Dec 24 (UNI) Five children died when the soil caved in on the bank of the Ganga under Pandarak police station in the district today. Police here said the deceased included four girls, all below 11 years of age. The incident took place when the children were engaged in digging soil on the bank of the river. Details were awaited.
