Retail management must in competitive world: Raja

Chennai, Dec 24 (UNI) Union Environment and Forest Minister A Raja today underlined the need for proper retail management as it would help the entrepreneurs in the present competitive world.

Inaugurating the Academy of Retail Management (ARM) here, Mr Raja urged the persons, who were setting up the academy, to develop skilled manpower, which was needed to carry out the retail management in an effective manner.

In his address, ARM Executive Director D Sugan Chinna Maran said the retail sector had been witnessing a transition from its traditional form to the modern malls, departmental stores, super markets, speciality stores not only in the metros and other major cities but also in small towns by providing the consumers a new shoping experience.

The ARM would provide qualified human resource for the growing retail industry, he said, adding that they had prepared a blue print of specialities needed to carry out retail operations efficiently.

Mr Maran said the ARM would enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with REACH technology, an end-to-end IT solution provider for the apparel industry.

As per the MoU, the ARM would assist the entrepreneurs to set up CAD centres for the apparel industry.

It would also assist in imparting technology to the educational institutions in fashion and apparel domain.

Alagappa University Vice-Chancellor P Kanniyappan and Bharathidasan University Former Vice-Chancellor Muthiah Mariappan spoke on the occasion.

Five killed, six injured in accident

Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, Dec 24 (UNI) Five persons were killed and six others injured when their car hit a container lorry parked on roadside at Thapathi near Ettayapuram here today. SJM urges Centre to reduce interest rate on bank loans

Hyderabad, Dec 24 (UNI) Swadeshi Jagaran Manch (SJM) National Convenor P Muralidhar Rao today demanded that the Centre should reduce interest rates on bank loans to small and medium retail businessmen as they face tough competition from the Multi National Companies (MNCs), which were entering into retail market in the country.
