Minister pays compliments for Sabarimala work

Pathanamthitta, Dec 24 (UNI) Kerala Devaswom Minister G Sudhakaran today paid compliments to the coordinated functioning of various departments, especially Police and Health at Sabarimala during the current pilgrimage season.

Speaking at a review meeting on Sabarimala at the Collectorate here, he said the inflow of pilgrims had increased by 40 per cent and a total revenue of Rs 50 crore was expected.

All repair works on sabarimala roads would be completed before January five. Sanitation workers would be retained for a couple of days more after conclusion of the present pilgrimage season.

Mr Sudhakaran said arrangements for the next two years would be planned within two months on the conclusion of the current season.

He directed the departments concerned to take stringent action against shopowners who were found guilty of adulterating food stuff.

Officials of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) told the meeting that so far 7,901 long distance services were operated from Pamba. Total services run on Pamba-Nilackal route stood at 16,000. During 'Makaravilakku' pilgrimage season, 800 more buses would be pressed into service.

Those who attended the meeting included MLAs K Sivadasan Nair, K C Rajagopalan and Raju Abraham, C S Sujatha, MP, Devaswom Principal Secretary K K Vijayakumar and District Collector Asok Kumar Singh.

Five killed and seven injured in accident

Malappuram, Dec 25 (UNI) Five teenagers were killed and seven injured when the jeep in which they were travelling collided with a bus at Kottappuram in the district today. Police said the jeep coming to Ayikarappady from Mongam dashed against the bus coming from Kozhikode killing them on-the-spot. The deceased were identified as Naseem, Mohammed Shameer and Rahim (all aged 18), Shuhaib(15) and Shafeeq(13). The injured have been admitted to the Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode......

J'khand govt concerned over theft of BARC analayser

Hazaribagh, Dec 24 (UNI) Deputy Chief Minister of Jharkhand Sudhir Mahto today said the state government was concerned over the theft of analayser from the Central Coalfields Limited. Talking to repoters here, Mr Mahto said every step was being taken to find out the equipment containing uranium, brought from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC). An AHD staff shot dead in Bihar

Patna, Dec 24 (UNI) Unidentified criminals shot dead one person under Sachiwalaya police station area here today. Police said some armed criminals fired shots at the deceased, who died on the spot.
