Meghalaya gets ready to celebrate week-long Christmas festivity

Shillong, Dec 24 (UNI) Churches across Meghalaya have geared up for week-long Christmas festivity and New Year celebration, commencing from tomorrow.

The entire capital town has turned into a fairy land with spectacular illumination of light and red light atop the houses to symbolises the arrival of the lord Jesus to the earth.

The churches were also illuminated in the evenings to add to the festive cheer.

All government offices, including those of the Central government and Banks, had been decorated with lights.

Police Bazar and Laitumkhrah, the commercial hubs, also wore a new look with the illumination of light in almost all the shops.

In Garo Hills districts too, churches and town were decorated with lights.

Christmas carol across Meghalaya started for the last one week braving the chilled winter. All young and old joined the Santa Claus in Christmas carol.

Santa Claus's have been seen in different parts of the city greeting people and distributing sweets to children. People, specially the children and teenager, have been seen exchanging Christmas cards, chocolates and gifts.

Christmas trees and wreaths were decorated in almost every household as a part of the celebration.

Special Christmas cakes are being prepared in almost every household and bakeries to add embellishment to the festival.

Foreign and domestic tourists have arrived to celebrate the world's greatest day here, popularly known as ''Scotland of the East''.

Blueprint for making RGU centre of excellence on anvil

IRTC planning to set up call centres

Kolkata, Dec 24 (UNI) In a bid to attract more tourists, the Indian Railways is planning to set up call centres across all the four zones in the country. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) would be setting up the call centres which would handle 20 million calls each day. IRTC sources said the call centres would impart information on train arrivals and departures, facilitate ticket and hotel reservations, tour maps and guides and.....

Special package for DTH in NE

Aizawl, Dec 24 (UNI) Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry has announced special package for NE states to start Direct-to-Home (DTH) facilities to the rural people. Official sources here said that a project of Rs 400.17 crore has been approved by the Ministry to extend the service in the region.
