MDMK complains to PM, Sonia against MK

Chennai, Dec 24 (UNI) Marumlarchi DMK General Secretary Vaiko today complained to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on the ruling DMK's plan to cause 'terrible damage' to his party.

In separately faxed letters to Dr Singh and Ms Gandhi, Mr Vaiko alleged that he came to know from some reliable sources that DMK President and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had allegedly hatched a conspiracy with his party's rebel leaders and Lok Sabha MPs L Ganean and Gingee Ramachandran to create problems and tarnish the party's image and credibility.

Mr Vaiko said he had convened a meeting of the party's district secretaries, high-level committee, political advisory committee, political analytical wing and parliamentary board during which, he understood, Mr Karunanidhi had evolved a plan to let loose ''hooliganism by hired goondas in connivance with the police to disrupt the proceedings.'' With all sincerity, he had brought the situtation to the their notice, Mr Vaiko said.

Meanwhile, Mr Ganesan and Mr Ramachandran were making arrangements to convene the party's General Council on December 29 at Salem.

Mr Ganesan told newsmen at Thanjavur today that Mr Vaiko had no power to remove the higher level office bearers of the party and only the general council could do it.

He would file a case against Mr Vaiko at Madras High Court against ''his authoritarian move.'' UNI RV GM SP PM1944
