Jai Ram Thakur to be Himachal's BJP chief

Shimla, Dec 24 (UNI) Jai Ram Thakur, sitting legislator from Chhachot Assembly segment of Mandi district, will be the Himachal's new BJP chief, party sources said today.

''The decision to appoint Mr Thakur state president was taken at a meeting attended by senior party leaders during its national executive conclave at Lucknow,'' party sources, requesting anonymity, told UNI here.

The sources said the decision to name HP's state president was taken at a meeting attended by BJP President Rajnath Singh, All India General Secretary Sanjay Joshi, former all India Vice President Shanta Kumar and former state chief minister P K Dhumal.

The announcement regarding Mr Thakur's appointment would be made later, the sources added.

Congress to focus on health and social security in manifesto

Mansa, Dec 24 (UNI) The Punjab Congress would give priority to the social security and health sectors, besides focusing on the development of agriculture and industry in its manifesto for the Assembly upcoming elections to be held in February. MDMK complains to PM, Sonia against MK

Chennai, Dec 24 (UNI) Marumlarchi DMK General Secretary Vaiko today complained to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on the ruling DMK's plan to cause 'terrible damage' to his party. In separately faxed letters to Dr Singh and Ms Gandhi, Mr Vaiko alleged that he came to know from some reliable sources that DMK President and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had allegedly hatched a conspiracy with his party's rebel.....
