Govt should take steps to provide quality power: BJP

Hyderabad, Dec 24 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Floor leader in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly N Kishan Reddy today demanded the government here should take immediate steps to provide minimum seven hours of quality power for agricultural needs in the State.

Addressing a press conference here, he said farmers in all districts were resorting to agitations due to undeclared power cuts and low-voltage power supply.

He demanded the State government to convene an all-party meeting to review the power situation and to take constructive suggestions to solve problems.

Charging the State government with failure in improving the power situation here, Mr Reddy said, it failed to repair power plants and to avail of required gas from the Centre to run gas-based power plants.

''The government's slogan free power has now turned into no power,'' he alleged.

Mr Reddy said his party would support the farmers' agitation on the power issue.

KPCC chief's call to party workers on local body polls

Mumbai, Dec 25 (UNI) Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray today defended involving party chief Bal Thackeray into active campaigning for the upcoming elections to Brihamumbai Municipal Corporation, saying it would boost the party's prospeccts and strengthen it. ''It is not our desperation that we are bringing in the party chief for campaigning but it will strengthen the party further,'' Mr Uddhav Thackeray said after a meeting of party MPs and other office bearers.....
