Governor, CM greet people on Christmas

Panaji, Dec 24 (UNI) Governor S C Jamir and Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane today extended warm greetings to the people of Goa on the occasion of Christmas, to be celebrated in the state tomorrow.

The Governor, in his message, said ''Christmas is indeed as much a challenge as it is an occasion to rejoice. We rejoice because Christmas is the celebration of the Good News that brings joy and happiness and proclaims peace. God Almightly sent his only begotten Son to take away the sins of mankind.'' Mr Rane, in his nessage said ''Christmas is celebrated in Goa with great religious fevour, pomp and enthusiasm with active participation of all communities, thus fostering a sense of oneness and brotherhood. The unique and long standing tradition of Goans attracts large number of tourists from home and abroad to joins Goans in the festive celebrations.'' Opposistion leader Manohar Parrikar also extended greetings to the Chirstian community of Goa on the occasion of Christmas. He said the Christian breathren in Goa are celebrating with enthusiasm like rest of the Christian community the world.

Christmas celebrated with traditional fervour

Mumbai, Dec 25 (UNI) Christmas was today celebrated in the metropolis and its suburbs with traditional fervour and gaiety. The celebrations began with midnight mass and prayers at various churches across the city and subrurbs, with large number of worshippers congregating to mark the birthday of Lord Jesus Christ. The city wore a festive look with pictures and cutouts of Santa Claus kept in various malls, and chocolates and gifts were also distributed among children on.....

Pawar stresses need to encourage biotechnology education

Kolhapur, Dec 25 (UNI) Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar today underlined the need to encourage biotechnology education. Mr Pawar was speaking at a function to unveil the statue of eminent educationist Bapuji Salunkhe at the Shivaji University here today. Mr Pawar also stressed the need to encourage merit-based education in order to empower the students for the development of the nation. Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil were also present.....

Three years' RI for doctor

Ujjain, MP, Dec 24 (UNI) A special court has sentenced a doctor to three years' rigorous imprisonment and fined him Rs 10,000 in a disproportionate assets case under the Prevention of Corruption Act. According to prosecution, on the basis of a complaint by one Tejram, police had arrested district hospital assistant surgeon Radhey Shyam for accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 on January 25, 2002. During investigation, it was found that Dr Radhey Shyam had accumulated.....
