Floral tributes paid to Periyar, MGR

Tiruchirapalli, Dec 24 (UNI) Floral tributes were paid to Tamil Rationalist leader and Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) founder, Periyar E V Ramasamy, on his 33rd death anniversary here today.

A large number of DMK volunteers, led by senior DMK Leader and State Transport Minister K N Nehru and State Forest Minister N Selvaraj, garlanded the Periyar statue near the central bus stand.

Similarly, the activists of Periyar DK, led by its District President K Rajendran garlanded the statue, to mark the occasion.

Meanwhile, floral tributes were also paid to the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Founder of AIADMK, M G Ramachandran, popularly known as MGR, on his 19th death anniversary.

The AIADMK volunteers, led by Party's Urban District Secretary K C Paramasivam garlanded MGR statue at Cantonment area this noon. A large number of MGR fans also paid homage to the statue. At several places in the city, colourful portraits of MGR were displayed on the roadside by his supporters as a mark of respect to the Dravidan leader.

Jaya, party activists pay floral tributes to MGR

Chennai, Dec 24 (UNI) AIADMK Supremo and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and party activists today paid floral tributes to late Tamil Nadu chief minister M G Ramachandran on his 19th death anniversary at the MGR memorial here. Former AIADMK Minister and Party's Election Wing Secretary O Pannerselvam administered a pledge to the party activists, urging them to follow the path of late leaders and to work for bringing AIADMK back to power.....

AP Home Minister, DGP meet Patil

Hyderabad, Dec 24 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Home Minister K Jana Reddy and Director General of Police (DGP) Swaranjeet Sen today paid a courtesy call on Union Home Minister Shivaraj Patil at Raj Bhavan. Mr Reddy and Mr Sen met Mr Patil who had come to the city to participate in a private programme this afternoon. Speaking to newsmen here, Mr Reddy said so far the government had not decided on extending the term of the DGP.....

MK to unveil statue of freedom fighter in TN on Jan 28

Chennai, Dec 24 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi will unveil the statue of the late freedom fighter Rathinavel Thevar at Tiruchirapalli on January 28, according to Statue Erection Committee Chairman R R Gopalji. In a statement here today, Mr Gopalji said late Mr Thevar, who has served as the Chairman of Tiruchirapalli Municipality for 13 years and set up a giant 'Water House' at Lamparasampettai in the outskirts of Tiruchirapalli with his own.....
