Five killed, six injured in accident

Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, Dec 24 (UNI) Five persons were killed and six others injured when their car hit a container lorry parked on roadside at Thapathi near Ettayapuram here today.

Police said the passengers of the car were returning after visiting Lord Muruga temple at Tiruchendur.

The deceased were Arsunan (50) of Periyanayakkan Palayam, Arsunan's wife Malliga (48), Subramanian (60), Seetha (55) and driver Ravindranath (44).

The injured Ramesh (38), Arul(15), Arsunan(20), Asvath(19), Arvind (25) and Yasoodha (45) were admitted to Kovilpatti Government Hospital, police added.

Hyderabad, Dec 24 (UNI) Swadeshi Jagaran Manch (SJM) National Convenor P Muralidhar Rao today demanded that the Centre should reduce interest rates on bank loans to small and medium retail businessmen as they face tough competition from the Multi National Companies (MNCs), which were entering into retail market in the country. 15 Malaysian devotees hurt in AP accident

Tirupati, Dec 24 (UNI) As many as 15 Malaysian devotees were injured, three of them seriously, when an APSRTC bus in which they were travelling hit another bus between Kapilatheertham and Alipiri Cross Road this evening. Police here said 35 people from Malaysia had come here from Bangalore this morning. NGO comes out with alternative plan on interlinking rivers

Scheme to be named after Rajiv Gandhi: CM

Puducherry, Dec 24 (UNI) The scheme, which will provide unemployment allowance to educated unemployed youths in the Union Territory, will be named after Rajiv Gandhi, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said today.
