Five children die on bank of Ganga

Patna, Dec 24 (UNI) Five children died when the soil caved in on the bank of the Ganga under Pandarak police station in the district today.

Police here said the deceased included four girls, all below 11 years of age.

The incident took place when the children were engaged in digging soil on the bank of the river.

Details were awaited.

Kokrajhar, Dec 24 (UNI) A powerful bomb was recovered from two Adivasi youths from Telipara area under Gossaigaon police station in this district of Asom today. VAT on cigarette-tobacco to rise unemployment, crime rate, poverty

New Delhi, Dec 24 (UNI) Cigarette tobacco growers have submitted a memorandum to the Finance Minister expressing concern over proposed imposition of VAT (value-added tax) on tobacco from the next financial year, which they say will result in consequent rise in unemployment and drastic drop in farm income of cigarette-tobacco farmers. In the memorandum, leaders of the Federation of Farmers Associations, representing 14 cigarette tobacco growing associations of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, here said.....

New Delhi, Dec 24 (UNI) It was a chilly Christmas eve for Delhiites as the mercury in the capital plummeted to the season's lowest of 6.1 Degree Celsius, thus putting a dampener on the partying and the festival revelry. The drop in minimum temperature to 6.1 degrees C, two degrees below normal, from 8.2 degree C yesterday brought about a severe chill in the air.
