Attempt to split MDMK would be defeated: Vaiko

Chennai, Dec 24 (UNI) The Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) was cent per cent intact and no one could destabilise the party, and all such attempts would be defeated by the partymen with their ironwill, MDMK General Secretary Vaiko said.

Talking to mediapersons soon after placing the wreath on the body of the former Chief Minister M G Ramachandran in conection with his 19th death anniversary at MGR memorial at the Marina here today, he said the meeting of the party's district secretaries, high-level committee, political advisory committee, political analytical wing and parliamentary board, would be held here tomorrow as scheduled.

Mr Vaiko said for the last 13 years he had done everything to give the party its present stature. But the DMK President and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi was attempting to evolve a conspiracy to break the MDMK, in which only two people were trapped in the net laid by Mr Karunanidhi, he added.

He said, ''I could only regret and condole for them.'' Mr Karunanidhi and his family media were giving immense torture to the MDMK for the last five months by propagating false and baseless news against the MDMK.

He said both the rebel leaders L Ganesan and Gingee Ramachandran, who were relieved from the party posts, were disqualified from participating in tomorrow's meeting. The DMK is attempting to create confusion and flutter in tomorrow's meeting by sending the outsiders, wearing the MDMK banner dhoties, he alleged.

DMK, with the help of police, as in the case of the recent local bodies elections, was attempting to send anti-social elements and goondas in and around the Thayagam, the MDMK headquarters, where the meeting would be held tomorrow, to create violence, he alleged.
