National Geo launches science safari in Kannada

Bangalore, Dec 22: The Union Science and Technology Ministry and the National Geographic channel today released the Kannada Version of ''Science Safari'' a 48 minute film that showcased Indian science and technology through the unique perspective of the Channel.

Releasing the Kannada Version Union Minister for Science and Technology Kapil Sibal said that besides Hindi and English, Kannada version was the first other language edition to be launched as part of the campaign of the Ministry to trigger passion among children for Science.

The film was an eclectic mix of scientific achievements across the country and presented various innovations made by renowned Indian scientists and some unknown inventors in an interesting travelogue format.

Mr Sibal said that the Film would also be telecast by Doordarshan.

He said the film intended to create awareness among the children about achievements by India in Science and Technology and encourage the spirit of scientific inquiry. Discoveries in the fields of biotechnology, stem cells, agriculture, genetic engineering, education, bioprocessing and manufacturing besides non conventional energy have been incorporated in the film in which the indigenously designed and manufactured Light Combat Aircraft is exhibited along with simple scientific technologies used in day to day life is also incorporated.

Mr Sibal said that other Indian channels had also shown interest to take up similar productions in science and technology.

Stating that the Film was part of the campaign, his ministry had taken up to give a fillip to the waning interest in Science and Technology, Mr Sibal said more such productions concentrating on serious subjects would also be taken up.

Agni III missile to be launched in 2007

One gets lifer in murder case

Darbhanga, Dec 22 (UNI) Additional District and Session Judge Avinash Kumar Sinha awarded life imprisonment to Birju Mukhiya in connection with a murder case here yesterday. The accused and his friend Vinod Sah both had gone to withdraw money from a local bank on January 13, 2004. Vinod Sah did not return to his home and his body was found after two days. Maoists torch truck engaged in road construction work

Aurangabad, Dec 22 (UNI) A group of Maoists set ablaze a truck engaged in road construction under Prime Minister Golden Quadrilateral Project under Goh police station area here last night. According to police, the truck was torched when it was transporting stone chips of Deo construction company. The extremists forced the boarders to vacate the truck before their operation.
