SL personnels arrival leads to tension at airport

Chennai, Dec 22: Tension prevailed at Anna international airport here early this morning when 18 Sri Lankan army personnel arrived by a Sahara Airlines flight from Colombo en route Mumbai.

Official sources said some people started raising slogans against the Lankan army, under the impression that the army personnel from the island nation had come here for training.

However, enquiries with police revealed that the army personnel, led by Liya Nayaga, were experts in Karate and had arrived here enroute Mumbai for further training in the martial art in the next two days.

Helped by the police, they left for a star hotel for stay before boarding the flight to Mumbai tonight.

The Centre has clarified that India would not extend any military help or training for its armed personnel.
