Police files chargesheet in Malegaon blast case

Mumbai, Dec 21: Mumbai Police today filed a chargesheet against nine persons who have been arrested by the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) in connection with bomb blasts at Malegaon in Nashik district during September this year in which 25 people died.

The 2800-page chargesheet was submitted to the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court judge M R Bhatkar.

The court was informed that thirteen persons have been accused in this case but four of them, including a Pakistani national, are absconding.

Meanwhile, one of the accused Abrar Ahmed Ghulam Ahmed (32) who was in police custody, was produced before the court following expiry of his remand period. However, the ATS did not seek further custody following which the accused was remanded in judicial custody.

The court directed all the accused be produced before it tomorrow when copies of the chargesheet will be given to them.

Those who have been arrested in this case include Noorul Huda Samsudoha, Shabir Ahmed Masiullah, Rais ahmed Razaq Ali Mansuri, Salman Farsi Abdul Latif Aimi, Faruq Iqbal Ahmed Magdumi, Shaikh Mohd Ali Alam Shaikh, Asif Khan Bashir Khan Junaid, Mohd Zahid Abdul Majid Ansari and Abrar Ahmed Ghulam Ahmed. They have been arrested under various sections of MCOCA, IPC, Indian Explosives Act, Explosives Substances Act, Criminal Law Amendment Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Three blasts on September 8 this year in and around a mosque at Malegaon in Nashik district, had killed 25 people and injured 240 others.
