Pension of freedom fighters increased

New Delhi, Dec 16: The government has increased the basic pension for freedom fighters and their spouses by Rs 2330 per month from October this year.

According to Home Ministry, in October 2006, the basic pension of freedom fighters and spouses of deceased freedom fighters was enhanced by Rs 2,330 per month, so that the total pension, inclusive of dearness relief, becomes Rs 10,001 per month.

The date of giving effect to this enhancement is October 2 to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, founder of Satyagraha movement and the Father of the Nation.

NABLUS, West Bank, Dec 16 (Reuters) Israeli troops shot and killed a Palestinian gunman during a raid in the occupied West Bank town of Nablus, local medical officials said. An Israeli army spokesman said troops had come under attack by local residents who threw makeshift explosive devices at them during an arrest raid in the town and that they had identified hitting one of three gunmen they had spotted. WASHINGTON, Dec 16 (Reuters) US authorities have arrested 26 Bosnian Serbs in the past week and accused a number of them of taking part in the 1995 massacre of 8,000 Muslims in the Bosnian town of Srebrenica, The Washington Post reported today.
