K'taka: Shobha Devp pay compensation of Rs 30 lk

Bangalore, Dec 15: The Karnataka Labour Department has instructed the Shobha Developer to pay a compensation of Rs six lakh each to next-to-the kin of five labourers who were killed in a mishap at Infosys Technologies campus recently, Karnataka minister for Labour Mr Iqbal Ansari informed here today.

Mr Ansari who visited the spot immediately after the mishap told UNI that cases have been registered against the Developer in connection with the mishap.

He said Shobha Developers had obliged the Labour Department's instructions and Rs 30 lakh have been deposited with the Department.

The money collected from the developers would be disbursed to the immediate successors of the victims farmilies, he said.

On December 13 five construction workers were killed and eight others injured when scaffolding at a construction site on the Infosys campus in the city crashed. A similar incident had also occurred in the premises of the BT major BIOCON in which three labourers were killed on December Six.

New Delhi, Dec 15 (UNI) The Government today denied it had plans to grow sugarcane in 100,000 hectares of leased land in Brazil. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha , Union Minister of State for Agriculture Kanti Lal Bhuria said there was no proposal to grow sugar cane in Brazil. LG evades payment of crores of rupees as duty

New Delhi, Dec 15: Leading consumer electronics manufacturer LG Electronics has evaded payment of duty amounting to crores of rupees, Minister of State for Finance S S Palanimanickam said.
