Govt employees to embark on agitation on Dec 14

Mangalore, Dec 11: Various labour organisations and Central and State Government employees unions, under the banner of Coordination Committee of Labour Unions, will observe a nationwide agitation on December 14 to draw the attention of the Union Government to the problems being faced by the working class and the common man.

Addressing a press conference here today, Committee district unit Convener Madhava accused the UPA Government at the Centre of throwing to the winds the promises made in the Common Minimum Programme and contemplating to privatise public sector units. The Government was attempting to introduce hire and fire policy. It was also importing wheat at higher prices, he alleged.

He said the labour organisations have submitted a 16-point charter of demands, which included arresting the escalating prices of essential commodities, stopping outsourcing of jobs, taking proper initiatives to replenish the public sector units without privatising and introducing fresh consumer price index.
