TN Govt not to set up Satellite Town for SEZ

Chennai, Nov 12 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Government today clarified that it will not proceed further with the plan to set up a Satellite township of Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on the wet lands in any part of Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu.

A Government release said a section of farmers from Kuthampakkam village in Tiruvallur district expressed their apprehension that their lands were being sought to be acquired by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board, and it was clarified that it was an old propsal of a previous regime.

The present Government would not acquire any farm lands for setting up either Satellite township or SEZ, and categorically told that the Government has no plan to pursue it, the release added.
