Three elephants electrocuted

Guwahati, Nov 12 (UNI) Three elephants died when they were electrocuted by a high-powered electricity line near Behali, about 300 km northeast from here, today.

Forest sources said a herd of 30 elephants had come down from neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh and entered the Bholaguri tea estate and have been grazing for the past few days.

All attempts to chase them back failed. As efforts were on to send them back, three of the herd consisting of a tusker, a female and a calf, strayed and got electrocuted through a 11KVA line.

All of them died on the spot.

The incident occured at around 1300 hours and till the filing of the report, the elephant herd is guarding the dead animals.
