Sethuraman, top seed Nguyen Ngoc Truongson and Shyam Sundar, who scored another upset win over second seed Abhijeet Gupta today, now share the top slot with 5.5 points.
With just two rounds remaining, they are followed by as many as seven players including erstwhile leader G N Gopal with five points.
Sethuraman's was a class act against Sengupta in a French defense game in which the former played white. Sengupta had a reasonable position after the opening but it was an erroneous plan in the middle game that set the tone for an exciting finish. When it came to deliver, IM norm holder Sethuraman did not falter and romped home in 40 moves.
In the girls' championship being organised simultaneously, India's number two ranked player Mary Ann Gomes displayed her true tactical skills to shock top seed Woman Grandmaster Hoang Thi Bao Tram of Vietnam.
As a result of this, Kiran Manisha Mohanty, who won a long drawn game against Amruta Mokal, shot into sole lead on six points. Mary Ann Gomes and P Lakshmi Sahiti are now following the leader with 5.5 points apiece in their bag while Hoang is now placed joint fourth on five points.
The championships are being played to determine the best Asian boy and girl under 20 years of age.
