Thane, Nov 12 (UNI) Shiv Sainiks, led by MLA Subhash Desai, yesterday staged a ''rasta roko'' in the powerloom town of Bhiwandi for over six hours to press for the construction of a police station in the town.

Work on the construction of the police station was halted after a section of the locals who opposed to its location in front of a mosque, indulged in rioting few months back. Two policemen were killed by miscreants at that time.

The Shiv Sainiks, while raising slogans like ''Chatrapati Shivaji Maharajki Jai'' and ''Shiv Sena Zindabad'', demanded that work on construction of the police station be started immediately.

The Shiv Sainiks marched to the Vanzapatti Naka in the city where Mr Desai placed flowers at the ''martyrs memorial'' which was damaged during the riots.

Local MLA Yogesh Patil, who was present on the occasion, threatened to launch a fast unto death over the demand. District Sena chief and MLA Eknath Shinde also spoke on the occasion and expressed serious concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
