Aizawl, Nov 12 (UNI) The NE states will be facing an accute power shortage for the next ten days due to breakage of a tunnel at Ranganadi hydel power station (RHEP) in Arunachal Pradesh.

Talking to UNI, Additional Chief Engineer of state power department H L Parthasarathy here today said the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) is going to shut down it's RHEP till November 20.

He said the North Eastern Regional Load Despatch Centre (NERLDC) has informed all the NE states that NEEPCO would not be able to supply power to fulfil the demands. Due to profuse leakage in AIDT-III, all mechines of the RHEP would be under shout down.

''There will be no power generation in the RHEP during this week and NERLDC has warned consumers that heavy load shedding is likely to continue during the period'', he stated.

However, Mr Parthasarathy said shedding would be done on rotational basis in the peak load hours in Mizoram.

According to NERLDC, the shortage would be about 20 per cent of the peak hour's demand of the region. Asom would face more shedding because it draws 150 MW power from RHEP during peak hours.
