Puducherry, Nov 13 (UNI) Alleging that the law and order situation has deteriorated in Puducherry, AICC general secretary V Narayanasamy MP today demanded the introduction of 'Goondas Act.' Talking to reporters, he said the recent murders, including Youth Congress state secretary Gopi and a schoolboy Venkatesan, had clearly indicated deteriration of law and order.

Stating that the police were clueless on the incidents, he said the department should own responsibility for the sorry state of affairs.

Media reports indicated political intervention as an obstacle in the police inquiry, he alleged.

Mr Narayansamy also condemned former CPM secretary T Murugan's allegations that he had acted as a stumbling block in the JIPMER Anti-conversion People's Joint Action Committee in meeting the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

He, however, said that he had requested the Committee to meet Health and Family Welfare Minister Anbumani Ramadoss first and solve it through proper channel.

Urging the administration to take steps to grant due powers to the elected representatives of the local bodies, the Congress leader said "The 73rd and 74th amendment of the constitution had empowered the state administration to devolve powers without convening a special session of the assembly." Referring to the alleged irregularities in the land acquisition and construction of Government Medical College, he said action should be initiated against the official, who granted contract to higher bidders.
