To highlight this prospect, a seminar on 'New Opportunities in Coir Industry to the Entrepreneurs in NE Region' was organised by Coir Board and Times of India group here yesterday.
Participating in the seminar, Coir Board chairman A C Jose urged the youths to utilise the tremendous potential that exists here in the form of of coconut trees.
He emphasized the need of an entrepreneur zeal for the rich natural resources to be translated into revenue earning ventures.
North Eastern Industrial and Technology Consultancy Organisation Ltd managing director R Barua said his organisation would help in training and developing coir-based cottage and small-scale industries to all interested people.
Earlier, Union Joint Secretary S K Pulipala had stressed on a 'combine and cumulative' effort of government agencies and NGOs for effective implementation of government plans.
State additional director of Industries and Commerce J N Deka informed that five districts in the state, Nalbari, Barpeta, Kamrup, Morigaon and Nagoan, were being developed as coir cluster areas.
Coir Board joint director (tech) M S Pillai highlighted on the need for a seminar and study on Geo-Textiles and coir-related activities in NE to sensitise and create awareness among the local people.
He said it was necessary to identify prospective entrepreneurs and help them prepare preliminary business plans.
