Tension in SMC Power Plant as worker dies in accident

Sambalpur, Nov 7 (UNI) Tension prevailed inside the SMC Power Plant at Hirma following the death of a worker inside the factory premises today.

Police said one Nagar Bariha (30) working in SMC power Limited died this afternoon following an accident inside the factory. Bariha fell from a tower and died.

The plant authorities rushed him to the district headquarters hospital at Jharsuguda but doctors declared him brought dead.

Soon after the incident, the irate workers in retaliation attacked SMC Power Limited vice-president U C Govind, who was admitted to VSS medical college and hospital in critical condition.

The workers had resorted to agitation and blocked the main gate of the plant demanding Rs 7 lakh as compensation and a permanent job to the next kin of the deceased worker One platoon of police force had been deployed in the plant site to maintain law and order.

Police said the situation at Hirma, particularly at the factory, was still tense but under control.
