Single Window Act to be amended: Industries Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 7 (UNI) The Single Window Act in Kerala will soon be amended to provide immediate clearance for starting industries, State Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem said today.

Talking to mediapersons here, he said out of the 1,160 applications received for starting industrial units 1,142 had been cleared through the system.

Mr Kareem said all possible assistants would be extended to those who come forward with viable industrial projects.

Claiming that the state had favourable situation to attract more investment in the industrial sector and also for the growth of existing units, he said the government was taking all-out efforts to create more employment opportunities. The Public Sector Units (PSU) in the state would cooperate with Central PSUs and start joint ventures.

Mr Kareem said the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) had approached the state government for a tie-up with the Transformers and Electricals (Kerala) Limited (TELK) to manufacture and sell transformers.

The objective was to upgrade TELK to the standard of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and a formal agreement in this regard had been reached, he said adding that the valuation procedures was going on and expected a final decision in this regard at the earliest.

Mr Kareem said the state-owned Autocast at Cherthala would produce wagon components for the railways.

Earlier, he announced awards for outstanding small scale industrial units.

SC lawyer's killer, aides nabbed

Lucknow, Nov 7 (UNI) In a major breakthrough, the Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh Police today arrested the killer of a Supreme Court lawyer. The accused told the police he had eliminated the lawyer at the behest of the latter's cousin, who had paid Rs 5 lakh to carry out the crime. Alakh Singh was murdered in Ghaziabad on August 16, last year. As the local police could not get any break through, the probe.....

HC pulls up Punjab police in Ludhiana molestation case

Chandigarh, Nov 7 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court today came down heavily on the Punjab police in context of the alleged molestation of women veterinarian protesters by the cops and observed that this kind of lawlessness could not be permitted. ''A lady has been molested who could be a daughter, a sister, a wife including that of a police officer or for that matter a mother of someone,'' the court's division.....
