New Delhi, Nov 7 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed the project committee to file its assessment report soon regarding the new estimated cost of modernised slaughterhouse coming up at Ghazipur in East Delhi.
A Division Bench comprising Justices Ashok Bhan, S B Sinha and G P Mathur further directed the MCD to release an additional sum of Rs 12 crore to the contractor who is constructing the modernised slaughterhouse, which would soon replace the existing outdated and unhygienic abattoir at Idgah.
The initial cost of the project was Rs 65 crore which has now shot up to Rs 155 crore.
According to MCD, the total cost of the project is around Rs 106 crore, wherein the contractor has already been paid Rs 102 crore and the remaining payment is subject to the progress and quality of work.
Messrs IL and FS have been directed by the court to submit their report regarding new estimated cost of the project by November 30.
There is a considerable change in the cost of the project owing to deletions and additions such as doubling of capacity from 5000 to 10,000 animals per day.
The MCD has also given a contract for setting up of an effluent treatment plant to some other contractor.
Even the constant monitoring of the project by the apex court has failed to produce the desired results in time.
There has been a demand by the opposition in MCD for a CBI inquiry into the scandal.
