SAI defeats EME Jalandhar in tie-breaker

Jalandhar, Nov 7 (UNI) Sports Authority of India(SAI), Delhi held thir nerve intie-breaker to knock out EME Jalandhar 7-6 and move into the Super league round of the 23rd Indian Oil Surjit Hockey Tournament here today.

Both teams gave tough fight to each other but EME Jalandhar failed to clinch the opportunities to score when it came its way during the course of the match.

The first goal for the winner came in 16th minute through penalty corner by Kulbhushan. Two minutes later, the rival Armymen made successful field move in the right flank which was culminated into a goal by Mandeep Singh.

Soon after SAI mounted pressure in the rival D and amid frequent attacks Jai Karan scored two goals for winners in a gap of five minutes.

In the second half, EME forwards bounced back and Tara Singh and Avtar Singh(Sr) scored one goal each to bring their team to an equaliser(3-3). This prevailed till the closure and five penalty pushes were awarded to both teams to break the tie. In the tie breaker SAI boys scored four goals while EME could score only three.

This was SAI's second win in the knock out round which paved way for the team's entry into super league round.

Earlier in the first match SAI defeated Corps of Signals here yesterday.

Floral tributes paid to Jawan

Visakhapatnam, Nov 9 (UNI) Floral tributes were paid to the mortal remains of Jawan B Jayaram Bachala brought to Naval Air Station, INS Dega here today. Mr Bachala died during operation Meghdoot on 'Siachen Glacier' a few days ago. The body was brought by an Indian Airlines flight from Delhi and handed over to his relatives. CII comes out with bi-annual survey on Pondy

Puducherry, Nov 7 (UNI) The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Southern Region has come out with a bi-annual economic survey covering Puducherry to assess its performance in tourism, IT, automotive and auto compnent industries during the first half of the current fiscal. Govt to amend Single Window Act soon: Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 7 (UNI) The Single Window Act in Kerala will be soon amended to provide immediate clearance for starting industries, State Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem said today.
