London, Nov 7 (Reuters) Following are some of the major events to have occurred on November 8 since 1900: 1917 - The Council (Soviet) of People's Commissars became Russia's new government, with Vladimir Lenin as chairman, Leon Trotsky as foreign commissar and Joseph Stalin as commissar of nationalities.

1923 - Adolf Hitler tried to start a putsch in Munich, but was arrested four days later.

1932 - The Democrat Franklin D Roosevelt was elected US president, defeating the Republican incumbent, Herbert Hoover.

1933 - Nadir Shah, ruler of Afghanistan, was assassinated and succeeded by his son, Mohammed Zahir Shah.

1939 - A bomb killed seven people in Munich just after Adolf Hitler had given a speech marking the anniversary of the failed 1923 putsch.

1942 - Allied forces began landings in North Africa, beginning the Algeria-Morocco Campaign of World War Two.

1960 - Democrat John F Kennedy was elected US president, narrowly defeating Republican Vice President Richard Nixon.

1972 - West and East Germany ended 23 years of Cold War antagonism by initialling a treaty of good neighbourliness.

Mizoram to set up Rs 15-20 cr exhibition centre

Aizawl, Nov 7 (UNI) The Mizoram industries department has proposed to construct a permanent culture exhibition centre worth Rs 15 to 20 crore here. ''We have already sent our proposals to the Ministry of Urban Development to set up a permanent exhibition centre in the state and the approval is expected soon,'' Director of Industries Yogaraja said. Dacoit killed in encounter

Satna, MP, Nov 6 (UNI) A dacoit, carrying a reward of Rs 5,000 on his head, was arrested during a two-hour-long encounter with Thokia dacoit gang near Moni Baba ashram at Mohamgarh in this district, police said today. After receiving a tip-off on November 5 that dacoit Thokia was planning a major operation along with his friends in the area, three police teams were formed and the Thokia gang was attacked. NEC to launch air service in NE states

Aizawl, Nov 7: The North Eastern Council (NEC) has decided to launch air connectivity exclusively for northeastern states including Sikkim, aviation officials here said today.They informed the feasibility study of the proposed project has been done by Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Limited (IL&FS) and the report is scheduled to be discussed in NEC meeting on November 15-16 governors and chief ministers of NE states will attend the meeting.A private airline operator, which has reportedly run successful operations.....
