Reliance to enhance its services in NE

Aizawl, Nov 07 (UNI) India's mobile phone giant Reliance Telecom Limited (RTL) has planned to expand its network on a massive scale across NE states and include Mizoram by this year end.

Announcing the plans, RTL sources here said that there were ambitious plans to roll out GSM services in the entire Northeast and by the middle of the third quarter of this financial year, RTL plans to launch services in close to 275 new towns and cities of the region.

It has also undertaken a massive capacity expansion exercise in existing locations with plans to set up a large number of base transreceiver stations (BTS), they said.

''RTL would also install new mobile switch centre (MSC) with latest features like all 3G services, IN platform, GPRS and Edge to cater to the large network requirement in the region,'' the officials stated.

RTL has already spread its operations in Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Assam and Meghalaya while survey work had been completed in Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram for rolling out the services by December.

The cities and towns to have RTL services soon are Itanagar, Naharlagun, Pasighat, Roing and Tezu in Arunachal Pradesh and Kolasib, Aizawl, Champhai, Lunglei and Saiha in Mizoram.

Mizoram NGOs want Hindi soap banned

Aizawl, Nov 7 (UNI) The Hindi serial ''Kasauti Zindagi Kay'' which endeared itself to the Mizo community since last year, has once again come into controversy after several community-based NGOs have decided to put pressure on cable TV operators to stop showing the serial. Reports from Champhai district today said a recent meeting of NGOs has decided to request the cable TV operators to stop screening the Hindi serial as it was allegedly creating.....

Indian stakeholders concerned over Infosys' ADR issue

Bangalore, Nov 7:  The Indian shareholders of the IT giant Infosys today expressed grave concern over the company's decision to come out with its sponsored secondary American Depository Receipt (ADR) issue saying that it will lead to the return of the 'East India Company' in the country.Expressing their concern in the Extra-ordinary General Body meeting held here, the stakeholders feared that this might lead to foreign companies to take over the prestigious Indian company which had made its name.....

Engineering student commits suicide

Chennai, Nov 7: A-23 year old first year post-graduate engineering student of the Anna University allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in suburban Pazhavanthangal early today.Police said the student, N Durkesh, hailing from Andhra Pradesh, was living with three other co-students. He was found hanging from the ceiling fan.Acting on the information, police rushed to the spot and removed the body for post-martem. An investigation was underway, police added.UNI.....
