Passenger arrested in NSCBI for eve-teasing

Kolkata, Nov 07 (UNI) A person was arrested for eve-teasing and misbehaving with a few women at the Netaji Subash Chandra Bose International Airport here today.

Police said one Sheik Abdus Ali(40), a resident of Taltola here, arrived at the airport from Dubai in an Emirates Air Flight EK-546, an misbehaved with a few women co-passengers.

He also obstructed the Airport officials from performing their duty.

The airport authorities said Ali, while standing in the queue for immigration clearance, began to pass lewd comments and make offensive remarks against some women.

When objected by other passengers, he became violent and started hurling abuses at them.

He also allegedly picked up a fight and pushed back the immigration officials, while they were trying to restrain him, sources said.

Soon after this the officials logded a complain against him and he was arrested.

Ali had been charged under sections 323 and 352 of the IPC for causing simple hurt and obstructing a public servant from discharging his duty.

Police officials told UNI that the charges are non-bailable, cognizable, non-compoundable.

Police also informed that, during interrogation, Ali said he was a carpenter working in the UAE and was in the jail there for three months.

Unseasonal shower with hailstone lashed many parts of region

Rajkot, Nov 7 (UNI) Many parts of the Saurashtra region today experienced unseasonal showers, reports reaching here said. Parts of Junagadh, Bhavnagar, Amreli and Rajkot districts received light unseasonal showers accompanied by hailstones, reports said. Manipur organises first tourism festival

Imphal, Nov 7 (UNI) A four-day tourism festival for promotion of travelling in Manipur began with a call to withdraw restriction of entry on foreigners. The organisers, Manipur Tourism department, Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association, Seven Sisters Tourism Services, among others, said yesterday that due to restrictions imposed on the state by the Centre, no foreigner could come since Manipur became a part of the Indian union in 1949. The festival would continue till November.....

Rain dampens hopes of farmers in Manipur

Imphal, Nov 7 (UNI) Heavy rain since last night destroyed standing crops of the harvesting season in many parts of Manipur, official sources said today. Some farmers said they will have to wait for the land to dry up to begin with next harvesting . ''If the rain continues, a major crop failure is expected'' they apprehended.
