One killed, 2 injured during counting of UP Civic polls

Lucknow, Nov 7 (UNI) At least one person was killed and two others injured in a clash between the supporters of two Independent candidates during the counting of votes for Uttar Pradesh Civic polls in Moradabad district late last night, police today said.

The incident occured in Sambhal area, where the supporters of two Independent candidates Maglook Rehman and Nusrat Ilahi clashed over a dispute.

The clash soon snowballed into a full-fledged fight. At least one person was shot dead and two others injured after the supporters resorted to firing, police added.

The violence, however, did not effect the counting process.

Meanwhile, local police was pressed into service to avoid any fresh violence.

A case was registered.

New Delhi, Nov 7: With the clock ticking for the presentation of Budget 2007-08, Finance Minister P Chidambaram today favoured further moderation in tax rates and disapproved of tax concessions. ''There is scope for further moderation, however, this will depend upon greater tax compliance. The test is the secular rise in the tax to GDP ratio'', Mr Chidambaram said in his address to the annual Economic Editors Conference. The address was followed by the customary Question- Answer.....
