One killed, 2 injured during counting of UP Civic polls

Lucknow, Nov 7 (UNI) At least one person was killed and two others injured in a clash between the supporters of two Independent candidates during the counting of votes for Uttar Pradesh Civic polls in Moradabad district late last night, police today said.

The incident occured in Sambhal area, where the supporters of two Independent candidates Maglook Rehman and Nusrat Ilahi clashed over a dispute.

The clash soon snowballed into a full-fledged fight. At least one person was shot dead and two others injured after the supporters resorted to firing, police added.

The violence, however, did not effect the counting process.

Meanwhile, local police was pressed into service to avoid any fresh violence.

A case was registered.

2 policemen killed in road mishap

Lucknow, Nov 7: Two police personnel were killed and three others injured when a police jeep carrying them collided with a vehicle in Mainpuri district last night, police today said.The accident took place on the Mainpuri-Bevar highway under Bevar police station area, where the ill-fated jeep rammed into a vehicle coming from the opposite direction.While Police Sub Inspector Suraj Singh and constable Dhananjay Singh died on the spot, three injured policemen were rushed to the hospital, police.....

AIADMK demo against DMK Govt's attitude on fishermen: Jaya

Chennai, Nov 7 (UNI) AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today announced demonstrations to condemn the DMK Government's ''indifferent attitude'' towards fishermen. In a statement here, she said 150 fishermen in Nagapattinam recently ventured into the sea unaware of the impending cyclonic storm, as the Government had not alerted them. Due to this, some fishermen died and some were reported missing, while a few others, who managed to reach the shore were struggling.....
