New terminal at Karippur airport by January: Director

Karippur, Kerala, Nov 7 (UNI) The new terminal at Karippur International Airport would be commissioned by January 2007, paving the way for providing hassle-free services to passengers, Director R Veeraswamy today said.

Talking to media at the airport premises he said work was progressing well and expressed the hope that the flights carrying Haj pilgrims from Mecca would be able to land at the new terminal.

With the inauguration of the new terminal, he said more flights by domestic and international carriers were expected to be introduced to and from the airport, easing the problems faced by the passengers.

He said the airport had approached the Kerala government for allotment of more land for expansion of terminal buildings for the convenience of the travelling public.

Mr Veerasamy said the airport had recorded total revenue of Rs 30 crore during the fiscal ended 2006.

Stating that the export potential of the airport had increased manifold, he said Karippur registered 6718 tonne cargo in the current fiscal as against 192 tonne in 1995-96.

Kyndiah appeals to ULFA for dialogue
