Modi concern over killing of Biharis in ULFA attack in Asom

Patna, Nov 7 (UNI) Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi today expressed concern over the killing of five Biharis in Sunday's attack by the ULFA in Guwahati and asked the Asom chief minister to immediately pay exgratia to the bereaved families.

After talking to Asom Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi over telephone, Mr Modi said here that Mr Gogoi had assured him to provide Rs three lakh as exgratia to the kith of each killed. The government would also pay Rs fifty thousand to the seriously injured.

Mr Modi said he had asked Bihar Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah and the District Magistrate of Samastipur to ramain in contact with their counterparts in Asom and ensure proper assistance to the victims.

Five people of Samastipur district were killed and over 12 of the same district injured in twin blasts engineered by the ULFA in Fancy market and Noonmati area in the Asom capital. The total toll in the blasts was 14.

Centre extends rural telephony in Meghalaya

Shillong, Nov 7(UNI) Under the Bharat Nirman Programme, telecom connectivity will be provided to people in the rural and remote areas at affordable prices. In Meghalaya, 1457 villages would be provided Village Public Telephone (VPTs) on wireline/fixed wireless terminals while 500 remote villages would have VPTs with Digital Satellite Phone Terminals (DSPTs). About 44 villages have been provided VPTs as on March 31, 2006 and the remaining villages would be provided VPTs by November 2007......
