Mercedes Benz to start manufacturing unit in Mah

Mumbai, Nov 7: Auto major Mercedes Benz will set up a manufacturing unit in Maharashtra soon, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said here today.

Talking to reporters here, Mr Deshmukh said the company had decided to shut down its assembling unit in Pune but decided to stay back in the state after persuasion from the state government.

''The company is looking out for good locations to set up its full- fledged manufacturing unit by investing Rs 250 crore. The officials are in talks with the state government. The investment could go up when the MoU is signed,'' he added.

Mr Deshmukh said the company was hunting for sites around Pune district.

Couple attempt suicide

Puducherry, Nov 7 (UNI) Burdened with mounting debts, a young couple attempted to commit sucide here last night. According to police Nagarajan (24) of Pillaithottam and his wife Lakshmi (25) consumed pesticides last night in a bid to end their lives. Neighbours who saw them vomitting admitted them to the Government General Hospital, where Nagarajan was in a critical condition while Lakshmi was recovering. Police have registered a case. Railways come heavily on ticketless travel

Mumbai, Nov 7: In its endeavour to provide better service to bonafide rail users and plug the revenue loss, Western Railway (WR) recovered over Rs 195 lakh from total 96,842 ticketless travellers on the trains in September.The WR sources said the amount was recovered as a part of drive against the ticketless travel and unbooked luggage carried by commuters.Similarly, the railways also detected 112 cases of illegal transfer of reserved tickets and an amount of Rs 90,933.....
