Lok Adalat to be held every working day of HC

Kochi, Nov 7: The Kerala High Court Legal Service Committee will conduct a Lok Adalat every working day of the High Court.

Justice Kurian Joseph told a news conference yesterday that the Committee had decided to make available the service of two retired judges of the High Court on every week for the purpose.

Accordingly, retired judges M M Pareeth Pillai and Hariharan Nair would hear cases this week. The sitting would start at 1030 hrs at the High Court auditorium and would continue till evening. All types of cases with settlement chances would be taken up in the sitting.

Justice Kurian Joseph said this attempt on the golden jubilee year of the High Court would help reduce pending cases in the High Court.

Cases decided in the Lok Adalat were entitled to get back the full court fees remitted by the parties.

The Committee was also thinking about to conduct a Service Adalat to settle service cases, he said.

Paris suburb bus drivers strike over arson attack

PARIS, Nov 7 (Reuters) Hundreds of bus drivers went on strike last night, refusing to drive through Paris suburbs after an attack on one of their company's buses near the French capital, a trade union source said. Three vandals tried to set fire to one of the firm's buses on Sunday in the Paris suburb of Tremblay-en-France. Suburban buses have been targeted in a wave of arson attacks in the past fortnight roughly a year.....
