HCL in pact with Australia's La Trobe University

New Delhi, Nov 7: HCL Technologies Ltd today announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary HCL Australia Services Pty Ltd will tomorrow enter into a partnership with La Trobe University, to undertake joint projects and specialist recruitment.

La Trobe University is an internationally recognised innovative research university with expertise in computer science, electronic engineering, nano-technology, micro electronics and related disciplines.

This partnership will leverage HCL's strength in processes, its organisational capabilities in managing large scale transformational process projects, combined with knowledge and research capabilities of university that has Australia's largest wholly-owned and managed technology parks.

''This partnership with La Trobe University, is aligned with HCL's strategic intent to value add to the local economy, and to leverage local innovation and talent along with HCL's unique value centric approach to offer business transformational benefits to local Australian customers,'' HCL Australia Services Head Somnath Mallick said.

Under this agreement, both the entities will conduct joint research and development seminars and workshops and provide opportunities for relevant experts in each organisation to address interested parties in government and the community on ICT related issues.

A senior academic will be appointed to manage the new relationship with HCL. The University may also work with HCL to introduce specific subjects to meet ICT industry needs such as HCL's personnel delivering guest lectures on subjects of core competencies and support student-industry exchange programmes.

Man killed when lorry rams into tea-stall

Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, Nov 7 (UNI) A 50-year-old man was killed and two others injured when a lorry rammed into a tea-stall at Neytragunta here this morning. Police sources said the mishap occured when the speeding lorry, went out of control and hit a minivan, before ramming the stall. One person died on the spot when he was knocked down by the lorry. The deceased was identified as Krishnama Naidu. The lorry driver absconded.....

Heavy rains in TN disrupt normal life

Chennai, Nov 7 (UNI) With the north-east monsoon being vigorous, heavy rains continued to lash Tamil Nadu, inundating several low-lying areas and disrupting normal life. Weather officer here said a trough of low pressure was lying over south-west and adjoining west-central bay off Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh coast. Under its influence, rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at most places over south Tamil Nadu and at many places over north Tamil.....

New terminal at Karippur airport by January: Director

Karippur, Kerala, Nov 7 (UNI) The new terminal at Karippur International Airport would be commissioned by January 2007, paving the way for providing hassle-free services to passengers, Director R Veeraswamy today said. Talking to media at the airport premises he said work was progressing well and expressed the hope that the flights carrying Haj pilgrims from Mecca would be able to land at the new terminal.
