HC issues notices to Home Secretary, police chief, SP Sirsa

Chandigarh, Nov 7 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued notices for December 18 to Haryana home secretary, state police chief and Sultan Singh district police chief, Sirsa on the writ petition by woman SI Amarjit Kaur seeking registration of a criminal case and CBI probe into her sexual harassment at the hands of SP, Sirsa.

Justice Ranjit Singh issued the notice on the writ petition of Sub-inspector Amarjit Kaur, who has also asked for security saying she was receiving threats since the matter was reported by the media.

She was forced to go underground and had been mouing frequently because of persistent chase by policemen in mufti who were maintaining a strict vigil on her movements, she claimed.

She also sought the transfer of the respondent saying that the SP was politically well-connected being a close relative of a union minister of state which, she claimed, explained the lack of action against him so far despite her representation to IG, Hisar and complaints sent to the President, the Prime Minister and the National Commission for Women.

The petitioner, who was posted in the women cell of Sirsa police, has alleged that for over three months now, she had been subjected to sexual harassment by SP, Sultan Singh and after she spoke to the media, she was placed under suspension.

CM urges Planning Board to study reasons behind farmers' suicides

Mumbai, Nov 7 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has urged the State Planning Board to constitute a team to study the reasons for suicides by farmers and to suggest ways to prevent the same.
